The European Commission published, on 28 June 2021, two adequacy opinions on the basis of article 45 of Regulation (EU) 2016/679 (“GDPR”) whether the United Kingdom as a country outside the EU offers an adequate level of data protection. The effect of such a decision is that personal data can flow from the EU to that third country without any further safeguard being necessary. Transfers to the country in question will be assimilated to intra-EU transmissions of data. You can find a thorough explanation in European Commission's website.
Thereby, most recent adequacy decisions affect the United Kingdom for transfers of personal data to its jurisdiction, in accordance with article 45 of GDPR and article 36 of the Law Enforcement Directive (EU) 2016/680, respectively.
