In June 2019, the European Parliament adopted the Directive on work-life balance for parents and carers, (the ‘Work- Life Balance Directive’) which will repeal the Council Directive 2010/18/EU (the ‘Parental Leave Directive’). The general spirit of the Directive is to promote a work-life balance for parents and carers while aiming to close the disparity between the genders when it comes to childcare as well as the lack of incentives for fathers to take parental leave for their children.
